Because the month of May is filled with so many events--the Pittsburgh Marathon, Mother's Day, Graduations & Memorial Day weekend--no wine events have been scheduled for the month of May.

Pino's Italian Restaurant PittsburghSaturday night is a big night for Restaurant Week. It’s the second-to-last day, it’s the height of the weekend, and it’s basically guaranteed that every restaurant will be open for dinner. Since I was trying to get us reservations for all new-to-us restaurants, finding a place on Saturday night we hadn’t tried before & fit our one other criteria of ‘walkable from Squirrel Hill’ was a bit of a challenge. (Maybe ‘out in the ‘burbs n’at’ will be a criteria of the summer celebration.)  So we pored over the options and suddenly asked ourselves: hey! From pizzeria to fine dining, this long-standing restaurant continues to impress

Fifteen years ago, chef and owner Joseph "Pino" Mico opened a Point Breeze pizzeria, and soon began to upgrade. First, his tiny storefront began offering more and better entrees, then Pino's morphed into an upscale, BYOB place in Squirrel Hill. Then it moved back to Point Breeze, this time to a larger space with his wife, business partner and front-of-house manager, Jennifer, across from the original location on Reynolds Street. What's been enjoyable about the Micos' journey over the years is that they've never rested on their laurels. A couple of years back, the restaurant was completely redone and complemented by a liquor license, and the result — serving wines selected by Jennifer Pino to complement Joe's menu — is the best Pino's yet.
